Roon Radio steps up, plus a new look makes it even easier to use

The newly-announced winners of Sound+Image's 2019 awards feature some familiar names! The imminently-arriving Panasonic DP-UB9000 took home the coveted "UHD Blu-ray Player of the Year" title, with the judges calling it the "4K player to beat"; "Panasonic has loaded all its years of expertise into this new reference in disc-spinning". Meanwhile, Roon received the "Multiroom System of the Year" award, a special award created specially to recognise Roon's unique impact on the hi-fi world. To quote the judge's opinion, "Roon has become a peacemaker between hardware platforms. There is no better way to control your music, to ensure the best possible quality of delivery to multiple devices, or to enjoy the sheer wonder of musical discovery." PMC's new flagship speaker, the fact fenestria, made its first appearance on Australian shores this Friday night, and what an impression it made! Taking pride of place in Studios 301's live room, the fenestria was just one of the PMC speakers on display. Having been recently renovated, the staff at Studios 301 were keen to show off their incredible recording studios, complete with some of PMC's finest studio speakers. Given PMC's origins in some of the world's premier studios, it was the perfect place to introduce the pinnacle of their domestic range, which draws heavily on that studio experience. Huge thanks to the folks at Studios 301, to everyone at Life Style Store for offering their new speakers to be used on the night, and to everyone who came. Special thanks, too, to Jess Stillone for coming along and singing on the night! We've known this was coming ever since OPPO Digital announced that they would be ceasing production back in April, but we never thought it would come so soon. Sadly, that fateful day has finally arrived: the final shipment of OPPO UDP-203 has now completely sold out. Interdyn took on distribution of OPPO Digital in Australia and New Zealand six years ago, and we have been proud to have such a close relationship with the brand for such a long time. OPPO Digital products have always been class-leaders, producing many award-winning Hi-Fi audio products and universal disc players, and spanning three generations from DVD and Blu-ray to 4K UHD.  Thank you for being a part of the OPPO Digital experience -- it certainly sounds like a cliché to say so, but we couldn't have done it without you. The adventure isn't quite over, though! We at Interdyn will continue to work with you to deliver some of the world's best brands, including Devialet, Pro-Ject, SVS, Rotel, IsoTek, PMC, Roon, Ortofon, Artnovion and BenQ. Though we won't be seeing any more new OPPO Digital products, the UDP-203 and UDP-205 will continue to be supported: warranties will still be valid, and both in-warranty and out-of-warranty repair services will continue to be available. Roon has now added Google's suite of smart speakers, Chromecast and Chromecast Audio products to the thousands of Roon-compatible devices. As with other compatible systems like OPPO UDP-205, AirPlay devices, Devialet's Expert amplifiers, and Sonos speakers, Chromecast devices will appear automatically in Roon's "Settings" screen under the Audio tab. That update gives you a simple, effective way to bring Rotel amplifiers and other, network-free products into the Roon ecosystem. With a Chromecast Audio and an optical adaptor, you can use your store's Nucleus+ to demonstrate products like the RA-1572 alongside a host of other amplifiers, receivers and wireless speakers, making your job easier and giving your customer a premium service experience. With audio-only devices like Chromecast Audio, you can now enjoy gapless high-resolution music (up to 96kHz/24-bit) from Roon. AV Chromecast devices like Chromecast Gen 1, Gen 2, and Ultra can also display album artwork, artist photos, and track information from Roon in addition to audio. And just like with all other Roon-compatible devices, you can group them through Roon's software. You can also use the Google Home app to group Chromecast devices, which will then appear as another device under the Audio tab in Roon.

Tech news hub Smarthouse has handed out its 2018 Best of the Best awards, highlighting the year's strongest products in a range of categories including smartphones, TVs and speakers.
